System Architecture
The modules used for home automation are connected via a robust bus system. This 4-wire connection can be easily installed throughout the building. The Smart Router acts as the central hub, managing up to 8 bus lines and controlling communication across the entire system.
The illustration shows an example of the habitron® system architecture. The complete product range is available in the Products section. The Smart Router connects and powers the system modules, while the Smart Center acts as the central control unit.
Both are typically installed on a DIN rail in the control cabinet and communicate via a serial interface.
The Smart Center runs essential software components, including Home Assistant for system control via computers, smartphones, and tablets, as well as integration of third‒party smart devices. The Smart Configurator is used to configure habitron® modules and manage automations.
Installation
The habitron® system intelligently connects conventional electrical installations, including standard switches, sockets, lights, and blinds. Smart Controllers in key rooms enable local wiring through room‒based distribution, eliminating the need for complex star wiring to the central cabinet. The Smart Controller is installed above a large wiring box, from where the room’s 230V connections are distributed.
The power module controls circuits and reads switch inputs, while the external front panel provides user interaction. 24V inputs enable efficient wiring of multiple push buttons. All modules and sensors connect via a 4‒wire bus line to the central router. The offline Smart Configurator supports planning, documentation, and commissioning.
